The Director of African Affairs of the International Association Of World Peace Advocates IAWPA Amb. Dr. John Metchie has commended the outgoing Liberian President Amb George Weah for conceding defeat to his opponent Joseph Boakai in a keenly contested election in the West African continent.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, Amb. Metchie said the Liberian President has shown himself to be a true Eminent Peace Ambassador whose conduct in conceding defeat must be emulated by other African leaders.

The statement said the whole committee of Eminent Peace Ambassadors spread over the world, especially in the African continent are very proud of the peaceful conduct of the election and the acceptance of defeat by the incumbent President.

“In a continent where coups have taken place in some countries due to factors which include sitting tight syndrome, it is pertinent that the decision of George Weah in conceding defeat must be appreciated.

This is why IAWPA will be leading a delegation to visit him to commend his peace efforts as well as make adequate plans to be involved in the inauguration ceremony of Joseph Boakai the incoming President” the statement added.

While commending the incoming President, IAWPA said his first task should be to reconcile the country, especially considering its ugly past that witnessed a ravaging war that led to thousands of deaths.

“Considering his age, he is a father of the country, and hopefully, it will reflect on his governance when he assumes the office of the President”

In another development, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, the International Spokesman of IAWPA told newsmen in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital that the World Peace President Amb. Per Stafsen has approved for the African Director to head a delegation of 30 Eminent Peace Ambassadors from Africa to attend the inauguration of Joseph Boakai in Monrovia next year.

“I can confirm to you that the World Peace President Amb. Per Stafsen has approved for the African Director of our distinguished Association to lead a delegation of Eminent Peace Ambassadors to the inauguration.

This does not include our members in Liberia who will also join the delegation. Plans will be made to ensure successful arrangements are made for all those to accompany Amb. John Metchie to attend the event ” Amb Nkweke said while addressing newsmen.
